CUTE IDEA FOR WOOD IRIONING BOARDS

Do you have a cute, vintage, wooden ironing board sitting around like this?

Want to spruce it up a bit with a touch of country?

Well, if so, take a look at this idea I had.

Well, to be honest, my Aunt Marlene told me one day about an idea she had had and I kinda took it from there. And here's how it went.

I had bought a saying on jute twine for hanging that said "SIMPLIFY."  And I had it hanging behind my wood and coal, cast iron stove. I loved it there.  

Well, last visit from my aunt, she said that it would look real cute if I put that on my plain, wooden ironing board sitting beside it.

And that's what I did.

I started cutting the letters off the jute twine

and placing them on the ironing board with tape for temporary spacing. 

Then after I was happy with the positioning, I used some E-6000 glue and glued on tiny drops to hold them in place. Just a tad bit of that stuff goes a long way. And by using a little bit, it will be easier to remove if I ever decide to change it up a bit.

And don't worry, if you don't have any of these type of letters or words around, you can easily make some.

Here's how I do it.

I take those foam trays that you get from the deli with sliced cheese or sandwich meats on, and save them.

And just cut you out some lettering from that.

 If you can't draw them, print you some out from Microsoft Word and trace them out.

And then just cover it in whatever type of left over fabric, with glue, you have sitting around.  I save all my scraps for little projects like this.

To glue the fabric on, I just use a bit of hot glue.  It's quick and easy and you won't have to wait for it to dry like the E-6000.

But I went ahead and used the ones I already had, here's a close up of them.

And continued to glue them on my board.

And I made sure to leave it laying on it's back, to dry, for about 24 hours or so.
I'm sure it would dry quicker, but this is strong glue and takes a while to dry.

And here it is so much cuter!

A really simple and cheap fix to spruce up those plain, wooden ironing boards!

EASY PRIMITIVE WELCOME SIGN

Here's a plain old board that I picked up at a yard sale for only a quarter. Being plain wood, I knew I could make it into something cute for my Booth #555 .  And here's what I came up with.

First, I painted it in two cute colors, maroon and black, both flat.

Really simple and one coat of paint did the trick.

Then I rounded up a cute stencil that I keep a stack of in a cardboard box. They are really endless in life, as long as you wash them up a bit after each use. Here's the one I picked out.

It was a simple "Welcome" wording with a house also on it. I thought it would fit perfectly as a welcome sign outside of someone's front door.

Here it is all stenciled on. I used an off white mixed with a touch of yellow for the word WELCOME and the house and stars. I also run a line of checkerboard pattern along the bottom to add a little something.

I think it turned out okay just for a 25cent piece of wood that I found. What about you?

Cheap Craft Show Display Cabinet

Since I sell many little items and crafts in my Booth #555 at the Peddlers Mall, I am always in need of more shelving. And the other night at a local auction, I won this little white night stand for only $5.

Sure it needs some work, (has a top drawer missing!) but for $5 I knew I could do something with it. It's real wood, so it's sturdy. Something you don't hardly find now a days. lol.

I took one can of Walmart brand black spray paint to it.

Then just roughly sanded all the edges after it dried. I liked it like that so I left it. And where the top drawer was missing, I just stapled in a strip of black and white fabric.

I got the idea to use some pine boards because we are currently remaking our kitchen and I just laid a piece on the top of the nightstand, and liked it. So it just went from there. And believe me, I do not do exact cuts and measurements. I'm bad with that stuff, but this one still turned out good. The pine boards are really easy to cut with just a simple jig saw. I used a few more 1x3 pine boards (maybe for trim?) and kinda just doodled a little drawing, in the shape of a basic ladder, kinda. lol. and just cut cut cut until I got it to looking like a little shelf. That is what I am putting on top of the night stand to give it height and extra storage/display in my booth.

 

And here's what I came up with.

It's perfect to add extra height in my booth and the shelves, even though small, lets me add extra items! I love it.

And for the back. I went out into the garage, searching for something to make it a little bit more sturdy. And guess what I found. I had a black bookcase sitting out there holding on VHS Disney tapes. Lol. So I turned it around and removed half of the backing from that. Since it's not holding nothing great, I won't really care if it has a back or not. And I cut the cardboard type backing with regular scissors. That stuff is very thin! But it worked great!

Hope you got some inspiration from this and can maybe turn an old broken piece of furniture into something useful in your home or your craft booth!

AMERICANA Guitar for Display

This was first brought to me by a friend who won it in an auction for $2.00. It was plain, light colored wood, no strings, no knobs, and no tuning knobs. I mean plain Jane! It had been handmade by someone with a lot of patience lol.. I could not have taken the time to make this, that's for sure.

Anyways, my friend wanted it to be painted somehow so that they could display it for Fourth of July at his new house, on the porch.

And here's what I done to it. Let me say this, he did not want the "rustic" look on the guitar. That made me soooo sad, cause I know with some scuffs and such, it could have had a real nice worn look to it. I just don't care for the "just painted" look. I do wish he woulda wanted the ruffer look....oh well...

I even had to take some dowel rods and cut them with an exact o knife to get a ridge that holds the strings up. Oh, the strings I made from that crafting wire. The thin kind that you can hang ornaments with. It was kinda rusty in color.

In the pic above, you can see the black knobs holding the wire/strings. Well, those are from a black and white beaded necklace I had broken. I put a dab of hot glue on the inside, and then tacked them in with a tiny nail. The hot glue adds extra hold.

The ends of the wire, I just twirled with an ink pen. Wrap wire around it and slide out the ink pen. That's it.

It's a super long guitar. You can't really tell it when it's laying down so here's a pic to show just how long the neck is on it.

Oh, I took a cutout from a magazine of Uncle Sam and traced around him with a star. Cut it out and glued it on the top, red part for decoration. I used that modge podge to seal it.

Hard to see above, but then I just stenciled on some off white stars around Uncle Sam.

But if it were gonna be mine, I definitely would have finished it up a lot differently. A LOT! I may have even added some tiny strings of barb wire as the wires. If I could have found it, that woulda been cool! Oh, he added a guitar strap so he could hang it up on the porch. :-)

I just think most items look better roughed up.... What about you?

Flea Market Finds & Auction Goodies

OMG! I've been so happy with items I've won at local auctions lately, that I've decided to start a regular running post here about them now and then, along with my crafts. I hope you don't mind!

I buy all kinds of items for re-purposing and resell in my Peddlers Mall. But my last find isn't going any farther than my master bedroom.

Here's a quick pic of it from when I won it. It's a solid wood, oak cabinet. (Oh, btw, I love oak furniture the most- it's so country.)

All is intact. The doors are perfect and the two drawers. I'm 5'4" and this is just a little bit taller than me.There is very minimal scratches on it towards the trim at the bottom. All and all I'm super happy with it. I like a little wear on my items because our home is so country and "lived in" look. lol. It's going in my bedroom and house all my old quilts. And the drawers are gonna hold my sheets and such.

What did I have to pay for this? Well, I had the winning bid of only $30.00! I could not believe it it. I was loving it before the auction and I told my husband that I wanted to go up to about $80.00 on it. In no way ever, did I expect to get it for only $30.00!!!!

Flea Market Finds (Before & After) | Record Cabinet Redo

Lets start with the ugly old before pic of the record cabinet:

I re-done this old record cabinet that I purchased from a local auction. I hated it, but it was solid wood, with "good bones" as they say. And I loved the bead board style on the front of the doors. I painted it, sanded it, and replaced the brass knobs with more prim, wood knobs. And now I just love it.

Price: $39.99 = Sold after only 2 days. That makes me extra happy!

PRIMITIVE ANTIQUE SEWING MACHINE

Here's my favorite (WAS-read last paragraph) antique sewing machine I won at auction for only $5.00, after I painted it up:

I loved this antique sewing machine and it works perfect.

When I first saw it at the auction, it was a rough, scuffed up, light brown color then.

So I bought it and painted it a flat black. 

Then stenciled on a cute saying with stencils I bought from eBay. 

And on the inside I stenciled on an Old Crow. 

And this is it:

I loved it and was gonna keep it. 

That is until I opened it up and realized the model number was three 6's...  

Well, I'm a tad bit superstitious so it had to go.  

And off it went for sale in my Peddlers Mall Booth #555.
