Primitive SNOWMAN Ornaments

Hey ya'll!
Here's a post about how to turn just about any plain hanging ornaments into some cute, wintery, snowman ornaments.

I had ordered a ton of these wooden, hanging hearts at an after Valentine's Sale online. And I got them super cheap. I mean like under a dollar a dozen.  They were burgundy with various sayings and already had the wire hanger too! So I couldn't go wrong.
BEFORE PHOTO

First off, I spray painted them a random color I had on hand.  It was a sage'ish green in the Rust-oleum brand in a satin finish.

I so wish I had the Almond color on hand, but I didn't.  So I just went with it.

Next, after those drying, I took some cheap white and cheap black and did the speckle effect.
Just barely hold down the spray button and let it fling out on them.

I had so many, I had to lay them all over the place to dry.

Finally after drying for a few hours, they were ready to begin painting!

Most of them I painted in the Snowman themes and wrote various sayings like "Frosty" and such on them.

And some said "Burr,"

"Winter Wishes,"

and "Best Flakes."

Then I decided to make a few Candy Cane ones.

And added some wording of "Home Sweet Home."

There's a ton of these not in the photos, but I finally got tired of the winter theme and started doing some primitive designs.

This one below I mixed it up and glued a bit of pinstripe fabric on it, and then glued a rusty star on the center. Then just worded on "Love."

The "Faith is Believing in God" is one of my favorite sayings.

Then I used a small checkerboard stencil and stenciled on a background for the one below.
And I put on the saying, "Old Crow Co."

Oh, and as you see, I went through my fabric stash and grabbed bits and pieces of various colors and tied them onto the wire hanger.

I made so many of these and I did save a box of them to do in a different base color. Almond I'm hoping soon!  But for now, I just used colors I had on hand so that I didn't have to put more money into making money.

I'm going to price these for $3.19 each and considering I paid just under a $1.00 / dozen (about 7 cents each,) that will be a good profit.

And these type of cheap, hand painted ornaments tend to fly off the display trees during Christmas time.  They are a great, unique gift that not everyone will have one of!

Hope this gave ya'll an idea to paint up some holiday hanging ornaments. You can do these on just about any flat, hanging ornaments you may have already or can find at the Dollar Marts.

See ya'll next time,
~Lisa

PRIMITIVE Makeover of Window Treatment

My latest makeover project is a little wooden window frame I picked up for $2.00.
Dust, dried flowers and all.
Wew.

Heres the before:

First thing I had to do was to tear out all the old dusty flowers and ribbons. And oh yea, the tons of glue that held on the styroafoam the dried flowers were stuck in.
That took the longest.

Second thing I did was to paint the entire window a flat black.
Then I took some pieces of fabric and made a makeshift set of curtains on it.
I simply stapled them in place on the back.

I also used a stenciled saying I got from eBay and put on the front that says, "Primitives Blessings from our Past.
I just love that one and use it a lot.

Then I put a little electric candle in it with a prim bulb and a bit of grapevine as decoration.

And here's the after:

Price after makeover: $24.99
Sold in my Booth#555
THANK YOU!

Peddlers Mall, Morehead, KY

One of my favorite places to shop is at the Peddlers Mall.
That's where my Booth#555 originated (at the Morehead Peddlers Mall.)
I am still there and also located online here, for easier shopping.
(Currently updating online inventory)

If you are not familiar with a Peddlers Mall it is basically an old building, usually an out-of-date Wal-Mart building, that has been revamped into a flea market type store. Since 1997 they have grown to 18 retail locations mostly which are within Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia.

This store is very unique and different from a flea market because each vendor does not need to stay with their booth in order for sales to occur. Customers roam the store, make their selections and pay for their entire order all at the front counters. Each item in the store is marked separately by each vendors' tag. And so, the cashiers take extra care, reading each tag and so on, to ensure sales are correct.

Then vendors are paid once a month for their booth sales, minus the booth rent, which varies from booth sizes, store to store and a percentage of sales fee.

A Look Inside the Store
The store itself is very unique. Every ten feet or so, you are presented with booths of various vendors. You see, each booth is rented out separately, so everyone's items vary in detail greatly. You never know what you will find. One vendor may offer antiques while the booth next to it may offer Nascar items. You just never know what you will find.
 The categories are endless.

My Booth #555 below decorated for a country Christmas.
Note: All photos below are of my craft booths.

Our local Peddlers Mall is wonderful. It is located in Morehead, KY. I've been to a lot of them, but this particular one is awesome. I even have my own booth in which I sell the primitive furniture and decorating accessories I make. If you've been connected to me here, I'm sure you've seen some of my posts about re-doing furniture in the primitive style.

The aisles are always clean.
The individual booths, most of them (95%), are very well kept.

The workers are very friendly and accommodating. Overall, it is just a wonderful, thrifty shopping experience. Makes the hunt for treasures all the more fun. Not to mention how much money you save rather than shopping retail!

And here are some various photos of my booth, from time to time. Keep in mind, that I've rented a total of 5 booths at one time in one Peddlers Mall and a few booths in another and I sell online.  So, my photos and inventory change rather rapidly.

Then I go back down to just two, when the traffic flow ceases. But I've had the same Booth #555 for almost 14 years now. So along with my crafts, I buy and resell anything I can to fill the spaces.
But the hand-crafted items and re-purposed furniture is my most favorite!

Keep in mind, it changes looks on a weekly basis.
Most every item within' my booth has a price tag. Very few have a NFS tag simply because I use it to display items with.
So, I never know what will be here today or gone tomorrow.

Do you have a Peddlers Mall close to you?
