Snowmen Light bulb Ornaments

I don't think I've previously written about these adorable snowmen Ornaments.
If I have sorry, but they are just so dang cute they need to be posted again! lol

I have taken both new and vintage Christmas tree glass bulbs and painted them up as snowmen.

Their sizes are approximately:

Height: 3 Inches; Width: 1.5 Inches; Depth: 1 Inches

I have hand painted each Christmas bulbs with various Snowmen faces and expressions and then attached craft wire for easy hanging.

These are best displayed as a set. So I tend to make a lot of them to sale.
A tree full of these would look awesome.

I do hand paint new ones each week, so no two are ever exactly alike. And that is a bonus

to making hand made gifts. Each and every one is unique.

Great to decorate with or to give as gifts separately. 

And adorable as cute tie on gifts to top wrapped gifts with.

If you have any old bulbs on a strand that don't burn anymore give this a try.
You can also buy brand new bulbs, this size in packages of 5 at Walmart and Lowes.

Primitive SNOWMAN Ornaments

Hey ya'll! 

Here's a post about how to turn just about any plain hanging ornaments into some cute, wintery, snowman ornaments.

I had ordered a ton of these wooden, hanging hearts at an after Valentine's Sale online. And I got them super cheap. I mean like under a dollar a dozen.  They were burgundy with various sayings and already had the wire hanger too! So I couldn't go wrong.

First off, I spray painted them a random color I had on hand.  It was a sage'ish green in the Rust-oleum brand in a satin finish.

  I so wish I had the Almond color on hand, but I didn't.  So I just went with it.

Next, after those drying, I took some cheap white and cheap black and did the speckle effect. 

Just barely hold down the spray button and let it fling out on them.

I had so many, I had to lay them all over the place to dry.

Finally after drying for a few hours, they were ready to begin painting!

Most of them I painted in the Snowman themes and wrote various sayings like "Frosty" and such on them.

And some said "Burr," 

"Winter Wishes," 

and "Best Flakes."

Then I decided to make a few Candy Cane ones.

And added some wording of "Home Sweet Home."

There's a ton of these not in the photos, but I finally got tired of the winter theme and started doing some primitive designs.

This one below I mixed it up and glued a bit of pinstripe fabric on it, and then glued a rusty star on the center. Then just worded on "Love."

The "Faith is Believing in God" is one of my favorite sayings.

Then I used a small checkerboard stencil and stenciled on a background for the one below.

And I put on the saying, "Old Crow Co."

Oh, and as you see, I went through my fabric stash and grabbed bits and pieces of various colors and tied them onto the wire hanger.


I made so many of these and I did save a box of them to do in a different base color. Almond I'm hoping soon!  But for now, I just used colors I had on hand so that I didn't have to put more money into making money.

I'm going to price these for $3.19 each and considering I paid just under a $1.00 / dozen (about 7 cents each,) that will be a good profit.

And these type of cheap, hand painted ornaments tend to fly off the display trees during Christmas time.  They are a great, unique gift that not everyone will have one of!

DIY RECYCLED CHRISTMAS LIGHT BULBS into SNOWMEN ORNAMENTS

A few years ago I won a long strand of these old type Christmas lights in an auction box.  The bigger bulbs that would get hot to the touch.

I used them for one season and figured I'd just take them apart for a craft.
And finally, just yesterday, I got around to painting them in a design similar to some I'd seen on Etsy for $6.75 each. I just love all the snowmen items that the shop, FlatHillGoods, makes.

So here's how I made my version of

RECYCLED CHRISTMAS LIGHT BULBS into SNOWMEN ORNAMENTS
in case you want to give them a try.

Here they are again before, after I had unscrewed them from the light strand.

First off, I just got out some of my craft paints and a variety of paint brushes and began painting on white circles for faces.

Letting them all dry, I was ready to add some eyes and mouths in a charcoal gray.
I use the end of my brush, the plastic tip for this process.

And then comes the cinnamon orange noses.

And a few more with noses....

And then after they dry, I go back with the antique white and add a little dab of snow to their noses and white dots to their eyes.

I love the finer little details like this.

Then I take a toothbrush, dip it in a mixture of half water and half off white paint, and do the speckle effect.

I love how it makes them all snowy looking.

And then after they dry, they are ready for their wire hangers.
I just used the craft, thin gauge wire. It is at the Dollar Mart, 3 rolls in a pack for $1.00.

And then after the hangers are on, I was ready to add some decorations.
I cut up pieces of the green garland and wove them into the wire hanger.

And I also cut some strips of jute twine and tied them on to a few.

Then I found some small, metal, rusty stars in my craft supplies and I slid a few of them onto the wire hanger also.

On the rusty star, I plan to write "FROSTY" in off white if I have time later.

And here they are, all coming together.

 I gave the ends of the wire hangers a twirl with the tip of a paintbrush also.

I priced these with sticky, print out tags, for $2.49 each.

And here they are all ready for the Christmas shoppers in my local co-op craft booth.

Remember, keep those ole glass Christmas bulbs. You may just want to give this a try one day!
